For the most part, you'll find the same ebooks at each virtual online ebook store, just differences in price. Happily, I found the Diesel eBook download store to be the exception to the rule. Not only did they have most of the titles I've found at other sites online, they had a nice selection I hadn't seen anywhere else, in particular, the complete collection of original Sherlock Holmes novels all in one compendium, and in Palm eReader format, just how I like.

Next Man Up
In the NFL there is only one certainty: that every day, someone will have to be the Next Man Up. Football is an unrelentingly punishing sport, played and practiced at undiminished intensity, and it devours its players. Confronting injuries, trades, and the grim reality of competition, every NFL team prepares constantly for the likelihood--the certainty--that even franchise players can go down at any time. And someone new must be ready, trained, and primed to step in at the highest level.
Bestselling sportswriter John Feinstein persuaded one NFL team to lift the extraordinary secrecy that shrouds the sport and let him see how a team operates at the closest level. One team let him join every practice, every coaches' meeting, every players' gathering, every strategy debate. From the give-and-take of draft day, into the grinder of summer training camps, and from 100-degree practice games to the last game in frigid conditions, Feinstein reveals how a football team works--or fa

Next Man Up

Chapter One

Unexpected Good-byes

January 3, 2005

FROM A DISTANCE, it looked like any other football Monday in Owings Mills, Maryland. The coaches arrived early at the spectacular, brandnew $32 million facility located at the optimistic address of 1 Winning Drive. They grabbed quick cups of coffee from the first-floor cafeteria and headed up to their offices to begin their day by preparing for their morning meeting. The players came later. Like the coaches, they stopped in the cafeteria, but they sat at the round tables in groups of three and four, eating lunch before gathering in the posh auditorium that served as the meeting room when the entire team was together.

But this was a Monday like no other in the nine-year history of the Baltimore Ravens. There wasn't a soul in the organization who had thought before the season began that this would be the day when everyone said good-bye. In his first meeting with the entire team, on the morning that the veterans' mandatory minicamp began in early June, Coach Brian Billick had made his expectations clear: ... read full excerpt from Next Man Up ebook

    Palm/eReader Information:
Palm/eReader eBooks can be read on your Palm, Pocket PC, Windows or Mac computer. The Palm/eReader can display styled text (italicized, underlined, etc.) and formatting as well as perform functions not found on other Palm OS eBook readers.
What are the requirements for Palm/eReader?

You'll need a Palm OS or PocketPC/Windows CE Personal Digital Assistant (PDA), or a Windows or Macintosh desktop (or laptop) PC.

    Palm OS Hardware:

    • PDAs including: Palm III series, V series, VII series, m100 series, m125 series, m500 series; Handspring Visor series; TRG Pro; Sony CLIE; IBM WorkPad.
    • 134KB of free memory for the Palm Reader application, plus sufficient free memory for each book (varies from 200KB to 2MB, depending upon the length of the book).
    • Palm Personal will not work with the Palm Reader. It doesn't have enough memory to handle all of our eBooks and there are some important technical differences in the Palm Personal's operating system that make it a less suitable platform for the Palm Reader.

    Palm OS Software:

    • Palm OS 3.0 or greater.
    • Synchronization software for downloading the Palm Reader and eBooks to your Palm device (e.g., the Palm Desktop software)

    PocketPC/Windows CE Hardware:

    • PocketPC series handhelds
    • 167-260K of free memory for the Palm Reader application, plus sufficient free memory for each book (varies from 200KB to 2MB, depending upon the length of the book)
    • 256KB free program space

    PocketPC/Windows CE Software:

    • PocketPC or PocketPC 2002
    • Synchronization software for downloading the Palm Reader and eBooks to your PocketPC device (e.g., the ActiveSync 3.1 software).

The Palm Reader can read doc files. A doc file is a type of PDA file that ends in either .pdb or .prc. These text files have been specifically packaged for use on a PDA. Doc format is pretty much a standard for PDA documents, and the latest version of the Palm Reader can view them.

Can I use the Palm/eReader with the new Pocket PC's?

Yes, the Palm Reader is compatible with the following PocketPCs:

    • Hewlett-Packard Jornada
