Secretion and membrane fusion are fundamental cellular processes regulating endoplasmic reticulum (ER)-Golgi transport, plasma membrane recycling, cell division, sexual reproduction, acid secretion, and the release of enzymes, hormones, and neurotransmitters, to name just a few.
