1.1. STORY: FLIGHT NA3365 TO MORKOUSK
Per Larsson pushed his cap up slightly with two fingers. This was the third
time he had done this, a sure sign of his anxiety. The decision had been
taken. The plane was taxiing toward the runway. Per glanced discreetly at
his co-pilot, Dietmar Hosch, whose eyes were riveted on the luminous
dials and switches. He was checking them again and again. The two men
had not spoken to each other for two minutes. The only thing that broke
the silence was radio contact with the control tower, which Dietmar dealt
with.
The taxiway seemed to stretch for ever. Per Larsson could not even see
the other end. He tried to reassure himself. We've made our decision, now
let's get on with it. Both men could barely make out the access runway.
Theirs was the last flight of the evening and it was leaving two hours late.
