Color Confidence: The Digital Photographer's Guide to Color Management
"""Color Confidence is one book that no photographer, especially me, can afford to be without!""
Art Morris, Photographer ()

Establishing a successful color management workflow that produces predictable results is an important -- yet tricky -- undertaking. Most photographers are all too familiar with the frustration of a print not matching the image on the monitor. In Color Confidence, digital imaging expert Tim Grey provides the crucial information you need to get the color you want, every time.

His results-oriented guide shows you how to manage color effectively across all devices. He demystifies complicated topics and takes you through each component of a color-managed workflow step-by-step.

Designed for busy photographers, this full-color guide cuts through the theory, focusing on the practical information you need to make the best color decisions from capture to output."

Chapter One

Chapter Contents

The Nature of Light The Nature of Color Color Profiles Introducing Color Management

Foundations

Although this is a very practical book, you must have some understanding of the foundations of light and color, as they relate to photography, in order to use its practical information effectively. This chapter provides a basic look at color and color management. It won't make you a color expert, but it will help you understand how color works and how a color management system can help you.

The Nature of Light

Although the science of color is incredibly complicated, the subject of color management doesn't need to include a steep learning curve. The first topic on that learning path is how light carries and contains color (Figure 1.1).

Why must I activate my Adobe Reader?

Many publishers require powerful copy protection for their eBook titles. In order for you to be able to purchase and download eBook titles that have been secured for distribution, you first need to activate your Adobe Reader. Just as a credit card typically must be activated by a bank before use, your Adobe Reader needs to be activated before you can purchase and read eBooks packaged for secure distribution.

Can I print or copy my Adobe ebook?

To protect copyrights, publishers and authors establish their own guidelines for how much of their eBooks can be printed or copied. This means that these permissions will differ from book to book. Each ebook file has a differing level of encryption which is controlled by the author/publisher at creation. For example, a publisher might give users the ability to print several pages of a cookbook within a set period of time. You'll see specifc settings for the Adobe title under the ebook description.
