If there is one topic about which little has been written, and even less
consensus achieved, it is the role of the chairman of the board in the
North American context. The very title conjures up connotations of
grandeur, like Admiral of the Fleet. In reality, the chairman of the
board is probably the pivotal figure in projecting the image of a successful
and profitable corporation.
