What Did Jesus Really Say-How Christianity Went Astray {What to Say to a Born Again Christian Fundamentalist, But Never Had the Information}
No dogma please. And hold the mustard. For something to be called Christianity, it should be based on the teachings of Jesus Christ. Jesus never said he needed to die for our sins so we could be "saved." Only Paul and John make this claim. Christianity has therefore become a form of Paulism and Johnism that emphasize the Savior aspect of Jesus. But Paul had never met or heard Jesus teach, and John tells a story that's so different from the other disciples that we must seriously question him as a source. Did you also know there are two different biblical stories about how Judas dies? And Mary Magdalene wasn't a prostitute until the Pope made her one in the sixth century. Pope Urban II even made killing non-Christians acceptable in the eleventh century. Born Again Christian, President George W. Bush, also believes in the "Rapture" and the "End of Times." See why this should be alarming. Other subjects include ancient Buddhist records about Jesus traveling to India and studying Buddhism. Jesus may even have studied and practiced Kabbalah. Subsequently, What Did Jesus Really Say is an easy to read introduction that also reflects on God, Karma, Buddhism, Kabbalah, Reincarnation, Politics, and even Astrophysics.

I was very impressed with this book. Extremely interesting subject matter. The last chapter and the Epilogue also speculate on how life works. Karma. Reincarnation. The age old question of "Why Are We Here?" is answered. Very interesting indeed.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent 08/01/2005
Reviewer: Robert Cronyn, Ph.D. from London, England
This a very informative introduction for anyone interested in this subject. Perhaps what I liked best is that the book is not a heavy scholarly piece that becomes overly tedious to read. You can either read the individual chapters that you're particularly interested in or you can read the entire book from start to end. Initially, I only read the chapters that I was specifically interested in, but I enjoyed them so much that I started the book again from the beginning. I especially liked the last two chapters with esoteric explanations of how the universe may actually work. I also enjoyed the philosophical link between science and religion. I highly recommend this book to anyone seeking an easy to read introduction into this subject.

5 out of 5 stars This is one of the best books I've read on this su 06/09/2005

I love the intermingling of religion, mysticism, politics, and even science to form a beautiful argument for Jesus while clearly railing against Fundamentalist Christianity. The author, Peter Cayce, has tied all these subjects together in a well-presented and concise argument. Liberals will love this book! Conservatives will probably hate it!

5 out of 5 stars Great book! I really enjoyed reading it. 06/02/2005
Reviewer: Phil Wharton (NBCC) from New York, NY
Now more than ever (with politics the way it is today), this book is important. Christianity can actually become a dangerous force when it gets involved in the political process. Just look at the Inquisition. In fact, the United States is heading for a type of "inquisition-like" type of Christianity today. We may no longer be burning people at the stake, but we are being politically pressured to keep brain-dead people alive (i.e., Karen Schiavo)and overturn abortion rights. The Christian "Right Wing" of the Republican Party is even voting for people who they feel will best perpetuate these conservative issues by changing the laws that would force all Americans to accept their beliefs. This book is therefore a must-read for those who are tired of Christian Fundamentalists who quote the New Testament on issues of morality. In short, what Jesus actually says is often different from what Christianity says we should do. Modern Christianity, then, is more about Paul the Apostle than it is about Jesus.
