Twenty-five-year-old Darra Sacair, a child of both human and Danu descent, feels disconnected from both species. But through her Danu mother, she inherits the gift-or curse-of the Sheleasoun, a special magic that comes from within Darra's own body.
On the night that Darra discovers her powers, raiders in the employ of her mother's former fiancé attack their family home. Darra escapes into the surrounding forest and is found by a mixed-race young man, Nez, and his adoptive father, Willum Oak. They take Darra back to her home only to find that her parents are missing and many villagers are either dead or seriously wounded. With the aid of her newfound friends, Darra sets out on an exciting adventure to rescue her parents, facing dragons, wizards, power-hungry Danu, and the grandparents she never knew.
Wielding a power she neither understands nor wants, driven by the need to free her parents from the cruel Danu holding them prisoner, and more uncertain than ever before about her true self, Darra must embrace her newfound abilities-or lose everything.
