My struggles as a stroke survivor are connected to everyone's struggle everywhere. There is a journey somewhere in everyone's life. The way we react to that journey tells us more than we want to truly admit. It tells us who we are. Roger Caldwell had everything. He had money, a great job, three wonderful children, and lifelong friends. Roger played keyboard with several bands in Maryland, where he lived, and he was upbeat and constantly on the go.
One morning, he lost it all to a massive stroke. Nothing prepared Roger for this tragedy, and he dreaded being a burden on his loved ones. Trapped inside a half-paralyzed body and unable to communicate, Roger planned his suicide.
Despite his dire circumstances, Roger summoned the courage to replace his negative thoughts with faith, hope, and a will to live. He knew his recovery depended on his attitude and spirit. Roger devoted himself tirelessly to rehabilitation, relearning all the things he had once taken for granted―things like putting on clothes, walking, reading, writing a sentence, and speaking.
Roger's miraculous survival story will motivate you to honor the signals your body sends, visit your doctor, adopt healthy habits, and celebrate life.
