This is a story of a young boy named Mashaka, a Swahili word meaning strife. He is a boy borne of mysterious conception, and the protector of mankind. He is also the target of Lord Kifo, the lord of death, who is out to destroy him and all those who protect him.

The story takes place during the era of the near ancient, a tumultuous period in which the universe is on the brink of collapsing into the abyss of darkness. The mighty powers holding the world together have expended under an evil force the likes of which nobody has ever seen.

Mashaka finally reaches the land of the Rainmakers and quickly learns why he is the chosen one. He mobilizes an army using such unconventionally imaginative weapons they re-define ancient warfare. He leads his men to a war to end all wars - the final confrontation with the lord of death.
