Rosina, a young gypsy girl, has been wandering over the countryside with her brothers, eventually ending up in the New Forest where she attracts the attention of Squire Denny. The squire takes her home with him, initially into service in his household. But what neither of them realise is that their lives are going to be changed forever . This is a compelling read that takes the reader back to a bygone age which, however, is resuscitated with convincing dramatic tension-from the intrigue and shady dealings of a country estate to the theatrical, sophisticated yet sometimes bawdy life of London.
