with Windows XP
Home Edition
Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition is the latest
version of the Windows operating system
for personal computers. It provides an easy-to-use
graphical interface for managing files, running
programs, and connecting with the Internet. This
chapter explains how to start and exit from Windows
and the purpose of some of the items you see
on-screen. You'll also learn how to open the built-in
Help and Support system and how to look up information
in it.
Starting Windows
Windows XP Home Edition starts automatically when you turn on your
computer-you don't need to do anything special to start it. Windows takes from
1 to 3 minutes to load when you turn on the computer, and while it loads, you
see messages and introductory graphics on the screen.
When Windows finishes loading, you see the Windows desktop, which is discussed
more in the next section.
