Foundations of
Leadership
"We are such stuff as dreams are made on, and our little life is
rounded with a sleep," Shakespeare tells us in The Tempest (act 4,
scene 1). So is the Leadership Diamond model surrounded with a
context, and in order to appreciate its celebration of life, we must
first understand what this context means.
The heart of the Leadership Diamond model is presented in
preliminary form in Figure 1.1. Greatness lies at the center of the
Diamond; the space it inhabits results from the simultaneous activation
of four fundamentally different styles of thinking or ways of
greatness: vision, reality, ethics, and courage. We begin to examine
these dimensions in the next chapter.
But before we are ready to embark on this analysis, certain preliminaries
must be discussed. They are the ground, the basis, the
assumptions necessary to clarify the Leadership Diamond model.
