Set in modern day Spain, "La Ley del Reemplazo" is the story of Charles Handlin, an American author married to Abigail de la Deliah twenty-seventh in line for the title of Duchess. They have been married five years but no children. Abby is suddenly summoned home to Spain and Charles follows three weeks later. When he arrives in Spain, Charles is informed that The Law of Replacement has been invoked. Because they have no children, no heirs, a man has claimed Abigail as his wife; Charles is to be replaced. The process will take one week and in the meantime, he has a companion. He will select one lady from seven choices. He is not allowed to know her name and there is to be no intimate contact. What Charles does not know is his companion, picked from seven choices and named Number Seven, knows where the greatest treasure of the Middle Ages is hidden; the crypt of her ancestor Sir Baca de la Pilar. The treasure is proof that a French expedition reached the Americas before Christopher Columbus. Warning : "La Ley del Reemplazo" contains crude language, adult situations and one real good dirty joke.

Romance books have always seemed like trash to me; some woman reading and eating candy. I am currently attempting to read a romance novel by Rebecca Winters but I can't seem to get into it. My impressions of this book may seem strange - I liked it! To begin, there is a mystery that gets solved in a very logical way. Nothing strange but just common sense. The mystery is a strange one but one that seems possible. The story of Sir Baca de la Pilar would make a good book in itself. Second, I liked the two characters Charles and Number Seven. They seemed real but, of course, things are written that don't seem real but that is fiction. Number Seven is beautiful and Charles is older, not so beautiful. However, I really don't think her looks mattered to Charles or his looks mattered to Number Seven. She could have been older and not so pretty; he wouldn't have cared. I love my wife very much. She has changed over the years, so have I. Still, to me, she is the most beautiful woman in the world. Her beauty comes from inside not outside. The love between Charles and Number Seven seems to come from the inside not the outside. There are several touching moments between them. I got the impression they were friends, destined to be lovers; but friends first. That makes a difference in real love. My wife is the best friend I have. I can tell her anything except that time I went to Georgia for two weeks. We all have our secrets. Overall, a nice read with some laughs. Believable characters with actually three different mysteries. The end was a surprise, I did not expect. I rate this book - Three Hoots and fourteen hollers. - Bubba Bob
