Black Boots, Green Suits is a story about women going through basic training prior to the Persian Gulf War. This is the first play in a three part series. In this first part, the women change from civilian clothes to black boots and greens suits, learning what it means to be a women in an army designed by and for men and what it means to wear the uniform. The women journey through eight weeks of training and by the end of this journey much happens in their personal world and in the world around them. ABOUT THE AUTHOR in 1990 V.K. Banks entered the United States Army on the pulse of a war. Her play is intended to share some of the fictitious experiences as a woman going through basic training. After completing basic training V.K. Banks went on to complete her advance training, with honors, and then to participate in the Persian Gulf War. She has earned the Southwest Asia Service Medal with two bronze stars and the Kuwait Liberation Medal. Other plays written by V.K. Banks include Common Ground, and A Show of Kindness.
