Managing Agile Projects
Are you being asked to manage a project with unclear requirements? High levels of change? Or, a team using Extreme Programming or other Agile Methods? If you are a project manager or team leader who is interested in learning the secrets of successfully controlling and delivering agile projects, then this book is for you. From learning how agile projects are different from traditional projects, to detailed guidance on a number of agile management techniques and how to introduce them onto your own projects, this book has the insider secrets from some of the industry experts - the visionaries who developed the agile methodologies in the first place. Managing Agile Projects contains well over 400 pages packed full of insider tips on how to make these methods work for you. Chapters focus on topics critical to the success of projects facing changing requirements and seemingly impossible deadlines. Chapters cover topics such as engineering unstable requirements, active stakeholder participation, conducting agile meetings, extreme testing, agile documentation, and how to use agile methods under fixed price contracts. The book also provides information to help you plan your agile projects better to avoid some common pitfalls introduced by the fast pace and concurrent activities common to agile development methods. This book will show you the tricks to keeping agile projects under control.

Congratulations on putting together such an extensive and valuable book on Managing Agile Projects – this is the kind of contribution that will accelerate the adoption of Agile Development into large corporate Enterprises. Managing Agile Projects is the kind of book that will make everyone realize that Agile Development is a true revolution in the way we manage software development -- from it practices to its attitude. This comprehensive book demystifies difficult issues such as facilitating social interactions, interacting with stakeholders, and producing just the right amount of artifacts such as documentation, while providing detailed explanations of practices to install day-to-day agile activities such as requirements gathering, testing, integration and release management. This practical guide will help executives, managers, and developers to understand the true characteristics of agile development and agile project management, and how they these characteristics are different than other types of development and management. This book is an essential read for those who want to understand how to develop software with less risk, less cost, while maintaining high quality and employee satisfaction. 5 out of 5 stars A definite asset in my project management toolkit 08/19/2005
Reviewer: A viewer from Toronto, Ontario, Canada
Kevin Aguanno has brought together a book on project management that hits the target dead center. The target is, of course, that all projects are unique; therefore the approach should be unique, or "agile", as well. This book represents a consolidation of very powerful, practical, and applicable approaches to project management, a definite asset in my project management toolkit. Its relevance reaches beyond IT and into industries were constant changes and rapid responses are required to survive and deliver successful projects. (Stéphane Deschênes, PMP)

5 out of 5 stars Made my eyes gleam with new insight 08/19/2005
Reviewer: A viewer from USA
When Kevin asked me if I'd like to review "Managing Agile Projects", I was initially suspicious of how the title would hold up against other titles in this very popular genre. After reading it, I have to say it does so very well. "Managing Agile Projects" is not a book about a methodology. Instead, it looks at agile project management as a whole and offers insights to various aspects of it through the words of a number of well-known authors (all of whom have donated any author royalties from this book to charity!). While the book has been stitched together from a huge cast of authors, the whole really is a well balanced whole although some chapters do stick out from the rest, being rather academic for my taste. The book really is a one-stop shop for describing agile software development to a project manager. It doesn't just run through the usual stuff found in pretty much any book on agile software development but also discusses hot potatoes like fixed-price contracts and documentation. I've read a whole bunch of books on agile software development and I still found plenty of material in this book that made my eyes gleam of new insight. I'm rating this one at no less than 9 horseshoes! (Lasse Koskela, Java Ranch)

5 out of 5 stars A welcome addition 08/19/2005
Reviewer: A viewer from USA
Kevin Aguanno's Managing Agile Projects is a welcome addition to the complex issues surrounding managing software development projects using agile methods. It is neither too extreme nor too general, it's "just right." The reader will find a broad set of experience based recommendations for managing projects that use agile methods as well as practical advice on how to introduce agile to an organization. Since agile is itself an emerging process, Kevin's is a critical step along the way to a mature process based on adapting the best practices from a variety disciplines ranging from XP to CMMI. 5 out of 5 stars PMI gives this book 5 stars 08/19/2005

Once again, Kevin Aguanno provides the Project Management Discipline with yet another tool to aid in the execution of projects. Not only does Managing Agile Projects identify the areas of concern or potential issues associated with implementing new concepts, or even change, it also provides the mitigation tactics that a Project Manager can use in his Toolbox. Managing Agile Projects is easy to read and is written with practical examples to which we ALL can relate...a reference for ANYONE within the Project Management Discipline including educators, trainers, practitioners and those aspiring to be practitioners. (Lisa Jacobsen, Project Management Institute)
