A Circle of Dreams
Chapter One
An elegant woman stood waiting behind the chain-link
fence, umbrella over her arm. She was concentrating on the
small LIAT plane which had just arrived on St. Lucia from
Martinique. As a gust of wind ruffled her salon-cut gray hair,
her gaze flicked to the black clouds in the late afternoon sky.
The bougainvillea by the airport entrance looked faded in the dim
light, and streetlights around the small terminal did little to
brighten the gloom. It was unusual for the Caribbean to be so
stormy this early in the season.
At last she saw the couple for whom she waited, the woman
carrying an infant. Her face brightened as
she waved. "Andre, Jamie, over here."
Andre Demontagne waved back, calling, "Mother. We'll meet
you in the terminal."
"No, Andre. I must see that baby right now." Andre
leaned over to his wife and whispered, "How like Mother. When
she's impatient there's no denying her."
Jamie Demontagne smiled back at her husband. "Even through a
chain-link fence."
