Meg Stryker is an attorney with a civil practice that turns deadly un-civil when she agrees to represent one hundred sick people cheated out of health care. A series of strange, threatening events finally convinces Meg that in order to do her job--and save her own life, as well as her new lover's--she must first solve a murder.
Complicating her efforts are a large group of contentious clients, one very seductive client, and an old friendship that suddenly blossoms into a lesbian romance. Meg is challenged physically, professionally, emotionally, and ethically, but in the end it's her familiar skills as a lawyer that lead her through this perilous new terrain to a ragged but satisfying justice.
