Chapter One
IDL DEFENSE SECTOR 32-RED
TARSUS STATION
"Good morning, Captain," the sergeant offered gruffly.
"You're to come with me."
Anders Seaborg turned off the comp and swung out of his
rack. As his bare feet slapped the floor, he was pleased to
note that he felt no weakness in his right knee. The joint,
slow in responding to reconstructive therapies, was finally
coming around. His current situation offered him constant
reminders of the trouble his conscience had gotten him into
on Chugen. He didn't need more from his own body.
The sergeant's unheralded arrival most likely meant another
"surprise" session, so Anders donned his dress uniform
rather than simple shipboard coveralls. His choice was a part
of his continuing small statement about the proceedings. The
sergeant waited stolidly, making no comment. In the silence,
Anders contemplated the fact that his improving physical
condition was the best news he was likely to get today.
Anders sealed his tunic collar, tucked his cover under his
arm, and said, "All set, Se rgeant."
The sergeant nodded and led the way down the corridor.
