A Novel

Chapter One

If Annabelle hadn't found a body lying under "Sherman," she wouldn't have been late for her appointment with the Python. But dirty bare feet stuck out from beneath her nana's ancient Crown Victoria. One extremely cautious glance under the car revealed they were attached to a homeless man known only as Mouse, who was famous in her Wicker Park neighborhood for his lack of personal hygiene and fondness for cheap wine. An empty screw-top bottle lay near his chest, which rose and fell with the sounds of his wet snorts. It testified to the importance of her appointment with the Python that she momentarily considered trying to maneuver the car around the body. But her alley parking space was too tight.

She'd allowed plenty of time to get dressed and make the trip downtown for her 11 a.m. appointment. Unfortunately, obstacles kept creeping up, beginning with Mr. Bronicki, who'd caught her at the front door and refused to leave until he'd had his say. Still, this wasn't an emergency yet. All she had to do was get Mouse out from under Sherman.

In this contemporary romantic comedy, S.E. Philips manages the perfect balance between romance and humour, without being shallow. Her writing syle is very pleasant to read. The story is fast paced with a lot of laugh out loud moments. H/H are likeable : hero because of his evolution throughout the story / heroine because she is very sweet without being stupid or a doormat). AND, thanks to secondary characters, you also have the pleasure to read about other couples from previous chicago stars books. enjoy!

Highly entertaining dialogue! And the story was developed very well, leading up to Heath falling in love with Annabelle. The sexual tension scene at the resort was hot and steamy and I only regret it comes so late in the book!

This book is the sixth of the Chicago Star serie. Annabelle is the screw up in an over-achieving family and is determined to take over her grandmother's matchmaking business and make it a success. She believes that the key to success is to land gorgeous Heath Champion, bachelor extraordinaire and wealthy sports agent, as a client. Annabelle is a charming heroine, smart, warm-hearted, vulnerable and fun-loving, while Heath is always planifing every aspect of his life like getting married before his next birthday. Heath is looking for the perfect wife, however Anabelle realizes that his picture of the perfect wife is not what he really needs and that she has to find the perfect wife for him. The chemistry and the bickery between the characters are making the book very entertaining. The secondary characters are as well interesting as the protagonists. The book includes most of our old favorites from the other Stars books. Some new characters appear like Portia, a competing matchmaker who is gorgeous, perfect and miserable. Somehow the author manages to make Portia sympathic despites her craziness. In summary, "Match Me If You Can" is fun with engaging characters and sparkling dialogue typical of Susan Elizabeth Phillips. I highly recommand this book as well as the 5th previous ones.
