Chapter One

It was a well-known fact among those in the British diplomatic corps that whenever His Majesty, King William IV, had a sticky situation on his hands, Sir Ian Moore would get the assignment. No one else had a chance.

It was true that Sir Ian, thirty-five years of age, had a successful, decade-long career as a diplomat. It was true that he was unmarried, unfettered, and willing to be a roving ambassador, able to go wherever duty to king and country sent him. Of course it was true that his loyalty and honor were beyond question. But during this time of peace in Europe, truly sticky situations where a diplomat could make his mark were rare, and many of Sir Ian's colleagues wished His Majesty's favorite ambassador would retire to his estate in Devonshire and give the rest of them a chance to shine.

Lucia is an Italian prince's illegitimate and wild daughter who is forced to marry. Sir Ian Moore is the stuffy proper English diplomat tasked to marry her off. When you put hot and cold opposites togther, the attraction is mind boggling! Especially satisfying that Ian could not keep his hands off Lucia but I wished Lucia's teasing reflected more of her growing emotions for the man rather than pure playfulness. But I'm not complaining. Loved Lucia's attempts at teasing and flirting with Ian! Very entertaining.

I enjoyed this book because Lucia is so much fun. She's naughty, but not bad, and very unapologetic for it. Sir Ian is a very smart, resourceful English gentleman, and almost underhanded when dealing with Lucia. This is why he is so smart. She is bound to get her own way, but so is he. Winning the game is very important to both of them...their very way of life depends on it. It's a great read to find out who comes out on top, and they had both better watch out for what they wish. They just might get more than they bargained for. There are other really good characters in this book . Ian's brother, Dylan and his wife Grace, who have had their own book, figure prominently in this story and help to make it a laugh-out-loud book . Lucia's mother flits in and out of the story and I would enjoy reading a novel about her life. I'll bet there is a great story there. All in all, this is a great adventure to take and I guarantee you'll enjoy it.
