Thank you for the quick response. I am very surprised my issue was resolved so quickly. Another ebook store gave me a hard time before (months of wait and still not resolved), which was why I started shopping at this web site.

Romance title: The Taming of the Duke
"Extra 1: Chapter 36

Imogen, Lady Maitland, has decided to dance on the wild side. After all, she's in the delicious position of being able to take a lover. A discreet male who knows just when to leave in the morning.

But Lady Maitland is still under the watchful eye of her former guardian, the wildly untamed Rafe, the Duke of Holbrook. He believes she is still in need of a ""watchdog."" She laughs at the idea that someone so insufferably lazy and devoted to drink can demand that she behave with propriety.

It's Rafe's long-lost brother, a man who looks precisely like the duke but with none of his degenerate edge, who interests Imogen. To Imogen, he's the shadow duke . . . the man who really should hold the title. But when Imogen agrees to accompany Gabe to a masquerade...whose masked eyes watch her with that intense look of desire? Who exactly is she dancing with? The duke or the shadow duke? Rafe . . . or Gabe?

The Taming of the Duke

Chapter One

In Which the Curiosities of Courtship
are Reviewed

August 1817
Ardmore Castle, Scotland

"I wish I were a queen," Miss Josephine Essex said to two of her elder sisters. "I would simply command an appropriate man to marry me by special license."

"What if he refused?" Imogen, sometimes known as Lady Maitland, asked.

"I'd remove his head from his body," Josie said with dignity.

"Given that men make slim use of their heads," Annabel, the Countess of Ardmore said, "you don't have to threaten decapitation; simply allow the fellow to believe that he made up his own mind about marriage." She was tucked in Imogen's bed and appeared little more than a tousle of curls peeking from under the bedcovers.

"That is precisely the kind of advice I need." Josie snapped open a small book and poised her quill. "I am making a study of the skills required to succeed in the marriage market and since you two are both married, you are my primary sources of information."

"I'm a widow," Imogen said. "I know nothing of the marriag ... read full excerpt from: The Taming of the Duke ebook

This story is not your typical romance. There is a play, characters who switch roles, go into disguise, an alcoholic, pot-bellied hero who dries out and nearly dies in the process, illegitimate siblings, illegitimate babies, and of course, sex. I liked this story because of the humor. It's a nice change from your everyday English regency romances.

1 out of 5 stars Not a romance 09/07/2009
Reviewer: Michele Krane from Panama City, FL US
Wow, how this could be considered a romance novel is beyond me. The story was long and drawn out and the interplay between the main characters was so lacking that I was not sure that they were the two who were meant to be together. I was terribly disappointed in this book.

Although they are all enjoyable, this is the best of the Essex Sisters novels. Imogene, the sister you love to hate, and Rafe, the drunken duke with a heart of gold, are the most intriguing of the characters in the series. Both deeply flawed, Rafe and Imogene overcome their self-hatred and grudgingly allow each other to break down their self-imposed shells to discover true love. This novel differs from the traditional romance in that the main characters are not perfect paragons of romance, but could be someone you know - or even just like you!

Reviewer: SLB from Stephenville, Newfoundland CA
After following Imogen in the first two Essex books, you can really see her development as a character which blooms in this novel focusing her and her duke. The story of two hurt individuals healing, not because of each other so much in presence of, is very compelling. And the sense of attraction is very well written. I say not because of one or the other, because this isn't a story where a man fixes a woman or vice versa. None of that nonsense here, fixing comes from a inner grown and maturity, facing one's own emotions with reality.

This was the most interesting book of this series. It was nice to read about a hero portayed in all his imperfections and also about his gradual improvement. The relationship between the duke and Imogen developed most naturally.
