Hometown Recipes for the Holidays
Good Morning Oatmeal

Serves 6
"We eat this breakfast to help control our blood pressure, to improve the health of our arteries, and to lower our cholesterol. It is also very delicious."
Ingredients:
1½ cups apple juice
One 7-ounce package mixed dried fruit
1⁄3 cup packed brown sugar
½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
2 pears, cored and chopped
2½ cups milk
½ teaspoon salt
3 cups quick-cooking oats
Two 6-ounce containers vanilla yogurt
1 cup granola
Instructions:
Combine the juice, dried fruit, brown sugar, and cinnamon in a saucepan. Bring to a boil. Reduce the heat and simmer, covered, for 20 minutes.
Add the pears and cook, covered, for 10 minutes. Cool, drain, and discard the cooking liquid. Set aside.
Bring 2½ cups water and the milk to a boil in a saucepan; add the salt and oats. Reduce the heat to medium; cook for 1 minute; stir.
