Something Reckless
Prim, headstrong, and beautiful Penelope is determined to expose the licentious affairs of the ton's randiest rakes. Now one of their powerful number—the unrepentant libertine Jeremy Vaughn, Duke of Kilgrath—has been selected to put an end to the prudish lady's interference. Jeremy's plan is devilishly clever: He will join Penelope's war against immorality, fighting passionately by her side, all the while showering her with anonymous erotic missives designed to titillate even the coldest, most unwilling maid. He will break down her defenses and inflame her repressed desires by escorting her (in the interests of their "noble campaign") to London's most notorious pleasure palaces. And he will visit her boudoir—masked—during the night to school her in the deliciously sinful arts she wishes to abolish. Then he will expose her hypocrisy to the world.

But the handsome rogue's scheme is doomed to go awry, even as the lovely Penelope sheds her every inhibition and freely gives in to his every whim. For in this sensuous game of hearts, it's the seducer who becomes seduced . . . See more like this in our Erotic ebooks section

Something Reckless

Chapter One

1819

"The woman must be stopped."

Jeremy Vaughn, the Duke of Kilgrath, looked up from his snifter of port with a frown as he watched his friend Anthony Wharton storm around the private room at Worthington's Club.

"What woman?" he asked before he took a long puff of his cigar.

David Forster, the Marquis of Chartsford glared at him. "Great God, Kilgrath, what do you mean what woman? We're talking about Penelope Norman."

Anthony nodded his head, his scowl deepening. "Exactly. The woman is a deuced menace."

Jeremy shrugged, grinding out the remains of his cigar in a sterling silver ashtray as he pictured Lady Norman. With her lithe frame, long, flowing blond hair, and turquoise eyes, Penelope wasn't exactly the kind of woman a man of his appetites could ignore. And even if he could, her recent crusade against the sensual excess of the men of the Upper Ten Thousand was making her the current talk of the ton.

Still, he could hardly believe she was worth all this ruckus. He came to Worthington's and met with h ... read full excerpt from: Something Reckless ebook

Jess Michaels is fast bcoming my favorite author. Though in the first book in this series I did not like Penelope at all, I grew to like her in this one. Though I think she should have given Jeremy more trouble, she should have made him grovel more. However, it was still an enjoyable read, good story, it will bring out your emotions. Highly recommend it.

I've been waiting for Penelope's story to be written ever since I knew she married for convenience in Miranda's love story. I hated that ending and am glad that the author decided to write and give Pene her own happily ever after. It's interesting to see Penelope realize that the only fault that Miranda committed and was condemned for was falling in love. Her own journey to the same end as her sister is worth reading.

You've got to have read the first part to totally understand what's going on in the second part. Penelope's story is very intriguing. It's a woman fighting her own inner demons to discover what she truly believes to be right. In the end it's a moral sin that the two characters commit.

I wasn't aware that this was part 2 in a series by the author. However, it became clear upon reading it that there was a back story that I was not fully aware of, and one of my complaints is that the main characters did not feel as it they had been fully developed. In the beginning of the book, I found it difficult to empathise with the female protagonist, Penelope. She was largely ostracised after gaining a reputation for being rather puritanical. I couldn't understand why instead of clarifying the misunderstanding, she decided to publicly embrace a point of view that privately she wasn't sure she entirely endorsed. I bought the book thinking it it would be a battle of the wills between the opinionated high-minded maiden and the debauched but charming rake. What I got was something entirely different, mostly because Penelope was too weak-minded to engage in a battle of any sort. She played the victim to perfection and spent the latter half of the novel crying buckets, with every other character asking some version of "Penelope, are you well?" Without spoiling the details, suffice it to say that I could not enjoy any of the romantic scenes because I just felt that she was gullible, foolish and hypocritical. Jeremy's character was fairly inconsistent. In the beginning he agrees to this scheme to expose Penelope as a fraud because he was genuinely bored, restless and detached from his friends and family, and was eager to try something novel. It was therefore odd that he continued with the deception even after he started caring for Penelope and repeatedly pointed out how he would have to sacrifice his friends for Penelope, when he had never been shown to confide in them or spending time with them. I really hope the other novels by this author are better.
