London, May 1877

There were few things Greyden Kane, Duke of Ryeton, had been denied in his privileged life. Generally his every whim was indulged with cheerful abandon. Despite such fortune, life was not without its ironies and Grey had often been given things he never once asked for or, for that matter, wanted—such as the six-inch scar that ran down his left cheek. A scar that was hidden for the time being beneath a supple leather mask that obscured most of his face.

And so self-denial became something His Grace sought, but like all things, the taste of it often dulled.

It was that same sense of denial that had driven him to Saint's Row that evening. Daisy Merrick was very outspoken, and due to this she couldn't keep a job. When she as fired from her latest job she decided to become a writer. Sebastien Grant, was a very troubled writer who hadn't written anything in 3 years and hadn't written anything of substance in about 8 years. The reason for his poor writing was because he got addicted to cocaine, and when he went through withdrawal he also stopped writing. Sebastien is now penniless and his publisher wants him to write the novel he promised them years ago; the publisher hired Daisy to provoke Sebastien into writing again and also get some mentoring for her own writing. Daisy wanted to prove that she could hold a job, so she agreed. They had their disagreements but it all works out. It was just ok for me because the ending was rather abrupt - he didn't tell her about his former addiction until the very end and she forgives him. It also left a few loose ends (for the reader to imagine what happened I guess).
