Sabina Kane is half mage, half vampire. Her mixed blood relegates her to the lowest caste: assassin. War between the vampires and mages is always on the brink of eruption. After she's ordered to assassinate a friend and infiltrate the "enemy"'s camp, Sabina begins to discover there's more to herself, and the whole story than what she's been fed by the vampires who raised her. Potential problems for readers: Sabina is not very likable at first. She has way too much attitude, even if she is supposed to be such a badass. She is a perfect little drone for awhile, refusing to question anything. Without giving away too many spoilers, I laughed early on about her mangled magic attempt and then scoffed about her all-of-a-sudden proficient magic use. Positives: The other characters are great. Nobody fell into bed immediately but that's probably in the next book. It was fast-paced, and had a lot of action. I enjoyed it enough to want the next book.
