The Host
Melanie Stryder refuses to fade away. The earth has been invaded by a species that take over the minds of their human hosts while leaving their bodies intact, and most of humanity has succumbed. Wanderer, the invading ""soul"" who has been given Melanie's body, knew about the challenges of living inside a human: the overwhelming emotions, the too vivid memories. But there was one difficulty Wanderer didn't expect: the former tenant of her body refusing to relinquish possession of her mind. Melanie fills Wanderer's thoughts with visions of the man Melanie loves--Jared, a human who still lives in hiding. Unable to separate herself from her body's desires, Wanderer yearns for a man she's never met. As outside forces make Wanderer and Melanie unwilling allies, they set off to search for the man they both love. Featuring what may be the first love triangle involving only two bodies, THE HOST is a riveting and unforgettable novel that will bring a vast new readership to one of the most compelling writers of our time.

The Host

Chapter One

Remembered

I knew it would begin with the end, and the end would look like death to these eyes. I had been warned.

Not these eyes. My eyes. Mine. This was me now. The language I found myself using was odd, but it made sense. Choppy, boxy, blind, and linear. Impossibly crippled in comparison to many I'd used, yet still it managed to find fluidity and expression. Sometimes beauty. My language now. My native tongue.

With the truest instinct of my kind, I'd bound myself securely into the body's center of thought, twined myself inescapably into its every breath and reflex until it was no longer a separate entity. It was me.

Not the body, my body.

I felt the sedation wearing off and lucidity taking its place. I braced myself for the onslaught of the first memory, which would really be the last memory-the last moments this body had experienced, the memory of the end. I had been warned thoroughly of what would happen now. These human emotions would be stronger, more vital than the feelings of any other species I had been. I had tried to pre ... read full excerpt from: The Host ebook

4 out of 5 stars recommend this book! 10/26/2009

This is the first adult book that Stephanie has done, and it is very good!! After reading twilight, I thought it might be a let down, but it really wasnt. It was defently good. I got caught int the book, and couldnt put it down, and thats always a sign of a good book. The ending is really sad. Overall, its a very good book and hopes that there is a second installment! Defently recommend this book!

I'm not a science fiction fan, but I really loved this story. It's a testament to Meyer's writing that readers will be rooting for Wanderer, despite knowing exactly what she is. Read the first few pages carefully and then get ready for a ride. Don't cheat and peek~ wait for the ending. It's totally worth it! I definitely recommend this book especially since it was written for an adult audience.

It's futuristic and always keeping the reader on their toes. Of course, I could tell by the way the author wrote the book that she was the same as the Twilight series.

This is Meyer's first adult novel, and it does not disappoint. The characters are well developed, and the plot line is enticing. The beginning is important to the story, but may seem a little difficult to read. Don't let this discourage you from continuing on with this book. The farther that you read, the more unwilling you will be to put this book down. This is about human nature, and provides one of the most interesting love triangles that I have ever read. The ending was a surprise and an extremely fitting conclusion to this novel. Overall, I give this novel five stars and definitely plan to reread it. I highly recommend this novel for all readers.
