I found this book lacking. The story moved really slow. I felt as if more than half of the book was written just to fill the pages. They barely had contact with eachother. Yes, there were sparks between the characters but I found it strange that after countless meetings endeding in misunderstanding and arguements they would fall in love with each other. It almost made it seem purely physical. (as if they just wanted to bed eachother) They did see the opposite's good qualities but there wasn't enough time given in there for them to really explore it save that one conversation when they talked about the horror of war. It was only in the last hundred pages or so (1/3 of the book) that the story really started going and then it abruptly finished. This book, I felt, was a waste of my time. I was left disappointed. Even though I usually like the way Julia Justiss develops her stories I felt The Proper Wife was too long winded and lacking. 2 stars.
