The Mercenary

Even though she couldn't hear breathing other than her own, her heightened sense of fear let her know she wasn't alone. Someone was watching her. Victoria Jones lay very still, eyes closed, heart pounding an uneven tattoo beneath her sore ribs.

Needing a few moments to orientate herself she tried to keep her breathing steady. A log flaring in the fireplace. There hadn't been a fire when she'd come in. But now she felt its heat and saw the dancing orange light through her eyelids.

To still her panic she counted to a hundred and twenty, then added another fifty for good measure, then slowly opened her eyes. The library was dim, but flickering firelight illuminated the lower half of the man sitting in the shadows across the room. Boots, long, jean-clad legs…the rest of him disappeared into darkness and shadow.

This was Adair's first T-flac book, but it doesn't read like the others. However, I love this book. Marc is B-A-D bad and I mean that in a very good way. Tory is, well, unique. She is so out of her element, but just wont' give up. I love her, and she messes Marc up in some of the most adorable ways. He has no defenses against her, and that is what makes this story so wonderful. There is a bit of the paranormal in this book, but it's not so far out there that you have to be a paranormal fan to get into this book. The story is unpredictable and quite suspenseful. An overall enjoyable read!

i expected there to be more conflict between the two leads begore they eventually "fell in love" but i was slightly disappointed in their eventual climax. still it was worth a read

Cherry Adair is one of my favorite authors, and she does not disappoint with The Mercenary. This is perhaps one of my favorite out of all of her books thus far. A retired mercenary is faced with a woman who is seeking her brother and her only way to get him out of his capture alive is with this man. However, what the two may not have been expecting is the attraction between the two. One is truly innocent and the mercenary is doing everything in his power to ignore his friend's little sister...easier said than done. While on the mission, Mr. big bad mercenary finds himself falling for this slip of a woman and drawn to how much strength she has for one so innocent. After giving into one night of passion, the fulfill their mission and go on with their lives. But fate intervenes and the two may have found more than they bargained for.

This is a fun read! It has the all the romantic stuff you expect and still that turn paging oh my what is going to happen next. I can not wait till the next book comes out. I have all of them so please keep writting!
