The trick (for me) to properly enjoy this book is to forget about Sookie Stackhouse's world. Lily Bard's life and story is much darker, but just as interesting. Lily is a survivor of a horrific crime; she just wants to live her life peacefully and anonymously but after the landlord of the local apartment complex is murdered, she becomes involved in the ensuing whodunit. Lily, like Sookie and Harper, is an intriguing character and a worthy read. It seems Charlaine Harris hasn't met a genre she can't conquer.

Lily Bard is an interesting, strong and independent character that still manages to be sympathetic. You neither pity nor fault her for her flaws.
