	TV series v the books 12/31/2009

I did like this book, however, having seen the first series of True Blood before discovering the Charlaine Harris series of books, I was disappointed. I really missed the character of Tara, while the development of Lafayette's character was much more limited in the book compared to the tv series. I didn't find the book particularly well-written; I found it hard to care about the main character, Sookie Stackhouse as the writing is strangely impersonal. However, I found the imagination of the author to be very creative, and the Southern lifestyle she describes is fascinating and feels authentic. I also find the character of Bill Compton to be more interesting in the book than in the tv series. I am persevering and I have bought the next two books in the series. Finally, I would say that if you are expecting a carbon copy of the tv series you will be disappointed, however, if you read the book in its own right and try to forget True Blood, you will enjoy it.

I decided to read the book after watching the HBO TV series "True Blood". Once started, I could not put the book down. Charlaine Harris created a world from Sookie's perspective that was captivating and stayed true to many vampire lores. This book is definitely a must read for any vampire literature fan.

The first book in the Sookie Stackhouse series. Overall it was well worth the read, eventhough it took me severel tries to finally complete the book. It has a very nostalgic feel to it, sort of like Anita Blake but with humour. Sookie Stackhouse is just a small-time cocktail waitress in small-town Louisiana. Until the vampire of her dreams walks into her life-and one of her coworkers checks out...Maybe having a vampire for a boyfriend isn't such a bright idea.

I thought this was a bit of a snoozer. The author is very descriptive at the wrong times. For example, she givss page long descriptions about what she's wearing, but a romantic interlude is 2 sentences. These books just need more steam.
