I decided to read the book after watching the HBO TV series "True Blood". Once started, I could not put the book down. Charlaine Harris created a world from Sookie's perspective that was captivating and stayed true to many vampire lores. This book is definitely a must read for any vampire literature fan.

The first book in the Sookie Stackhouse series. Overall it was well worth the read, eventhough it took me severel tries to finally complete the book. It has a very nostalgic feel to it, sort of like Anita Blake but with humour. Sookie Stackhouse is just a small-time cocktail waitress in small-town Louisiana. Until the vampire of her dreams walks into her life-and one of her coworkers checks out...Maybe having a vampire for a boyfriend isn't such a bright idea.

I thought this was a bit of a snoozer. The author is very descriptive at the wrong times. For example, she givss page long descriptions about what she's wearing, but a romantic interlude is 2 sentences. These books just need more steam.
