5 out of 5 stars Great fast fun read 10/30/2009

I got this book as part of a bundle. I did not know what to expect and I was pleasantly surprised. I really loved the book and plan to read the rest of the series. I found myself routing for Mercy and really enjoying her strength of character. The book was a quick fun read that I really enjoyed.

I enjoyed the book but wasn't blown away by it. I've already read the short story "Alpha and Omega" and "Cry Wolf" so I was a bit familiar with the plot. However, I gave it 4 stars because I found the mystery revolving around the plot to be a bit confusing. Aside from that, I really enjoy the characters, especially Mercy. She's tough and strong but yet still sensitive and vulnerable. The rest of the characters were also nicely balanced. The plot, characters and action were all well written and the story moved through it all effortlessly. There are hints of romance in the book but is not the main focus of the story, although it feels like that story arc will come into its own further down the line.

Mercy Thompson has smarts and attitude! I thoroughly enjoyed the characters and plot of this book. Patricia Briggs has a writing style that is fluid and descriptive, easy to follow. Looking forward to reading more from her.

Mercy and her friends are great characters, real people who happen to be werewolves, shapeshifters, vampires, and witches. A little sexy but suitable for high schoolers as well as any readers with actual brains.

I really liked this series! I have been looking for some series that are similar to Laurel K. Hamilton's and Mary Janice Davidson. If you are a fan of either of those writers you will definitely like this book. I don't think that it is nearly as dark as Hamilton's book can get, but its still has its moments. This story has a very likeable main character and of course there are two hot guys!
