4 out of 5 stars Phury's story 10/18/2009
Reviewer: Sabrina Slager from Bradenton, FL US
This book is about Phury and the firth book in the Black Dagger Brotherhood series. Phury has accepted the be the primale in stead of Vishious, but he has a lot of self loathing and he is an addict. He doesn’t fulfil this job as he should, he should be with all the chosen females and sire as much children as possible. But his affections for the first chosen Cormia stand in his way. I love all the books of this series, but this book was not as good as the rest were. I didn’t like the way Phury was behaving himself and how servile the Chosen were. That being said, the book was not at all bad. I enjoyed the way they all become better persons and how Phury eventually grows to be the primale and finds a solution for his conflict between his job and his love for Cormia. I especially liked the ending.

The brother's are all so sensous, complicated and appealing at the same time. Reading this series transported you into their world and makes you want to be a part of it. Loved it so much and would definitely recommend this to other readers.

It is a very good bood. The book starts with a mystery and one you never expect if you have read the other books from J.R. Ward. Then there is this romance between Phury and Cormia, that is impossible. First, because she is a Chosen and have to share him with the other Chosen. Second, because his is the Primale and his the last hope to the Brotherhood alive. Third, because he is a drug addict and he doesn't feel like he is good enough for her. The way these obstacles are overcome makes this book a very good book. The book not only tells the main characters story, it also tell the other caracters stories. This makes the book interesting. You don't only see one live but you see many lifes.

Phury's story is the most dark of the Black Dagger Brotherhood series. His lifestyle finally catches up with him. After spending years protecting his twin, who has now found his happily ever after, Phury no longer knows what to do with himself. Cormia becomes his saving grace. Their story has many ups and downs. The plot is interesting and the second characters really add to the story and set the scene for future brotherhood stories. My only problem with the book is that you don't really feel the romantic relationship between Cormia and Phury like you do in other Brother's stories.

Believe the Publisher's Weekly review and not what the author peddles on her own website which would make you believe this is about Phury and Cormia and their love story. It's not. It's pretty much a very large book about the war, the vampire's world, and other factions she's bringing in to generate more books (sympaths, Moors, fallen angels, sheesh!). Inside this large book about all those other things (too many IMO) there's a semi-satisfying novella length (barely) story about Phury and Cormia and a good 70% of that is about Phury and the wizard (damned annoying) and his addiction. Phury and the readers got gipped. The rest of the story is good, I'll say that. If you like the younguns, John, Quinn, Blay and Lash, you'll love this because it's more about them than almost anyone else. You'll learn lots more about their families, some you'll love and some you'll really hate. I'll probably continue with the series out of curiosity, but I won't expect a romance that's for sure. I feel pretty confident that those days are over. If you want hot, steamy vampire romance with the Brothers, you'll have to reread Dark Lover because this is lightyears away from that "vein". LOL!
