Jefferson & the Gun-Men
With the ease and entertainment of a novel, Jefferson and the Gun-Men recounts a true tale of intrigue and avarice that the history books left out: While Lewis and Clark were busily plotting a route across the vast, newly purchased Louisiana Territory, Aaron Burr, the charming and treacherous former vice president, was plotting with the Spanish to conquer not only the territory, but all of Mexico – for himself. Acclaimed author M. R. Montgomery skillfully illuminates the eccentric characters and grandiose plans that peppered America's days as a fledgling nation that was just beginning to imagine and define itself. In a lively, impossible-to-put-down style, Montgomery explains why history as we know it was, in fact, a pretty close shave.

Jefferson will make a copy of this letter on an unsatisfactory machine called a letterpress that transfers a little of the ink from the original to a flimsy, almost transparent, sheet of paper. The third president is probably sitting in a pair of frayed trousers, wearing house slippers and a coat against the chill. He looks rather more like Bob Cratc ... read full excerpt from Jefferson & the Gun-Men ebook
