Meg saw the seals from her window, their silvery coats rippling as they thrashed out of the sea and collected along the shore. She'd seen them sunning themselves on the rocks by day and had watched them frolic in the dusky darkness from that dingy salt-streaked window in her loft chamber many times since her exile to the island, but not like tonight, with their slick coats gleaming in the moonlight. I was really excited about reading this story because I haven't read a lot of selkie themed novels. I enjoyed the start of the story, it seemed to have potential of a really good romance. There were many sensual episodes with the two main characters. But at one point the story seemed to wander around and didn't seem to have much of a point. There were a lot of lustful scenes that almost didn't seem necessary, they didn't bring much to the story line. At one point, I stopped reading it and read a different book because I was bored. Perhaps, I was in the wrong mood when I read it, but I doubt I'll read it over and over again like my other books.

I have a lot of respect for writers who breathe new life into old stories. This was well written, wildly creative and chock full of way hot sex and creative tableaus of what basically was a lot of very hetero centered stuff with a little karma sutra spice thrown in. It worked very well and even with the characters being a little over blown and cheesy in the wind swept historical novel way it still came off fresh and vivid. For the historical buffs there were a few glitches that might detract from the story where the modern finds its way into what is supposed to be a time long since past, but otherwise this is a fun enthralling read. The characters are well developed and the plot has dips and curves that aren’t readily obvious half way through the book. It takes a little longer but the how of it was still pretty surprising. Kudos to Ms. Thompson, I really enjoyed this work and look forward to more.
