This book has been the foundation of the whole genre since it was published nearly 70 years ago and need a place on the shelf of everyone seriously interested in self development and growth. This having been said I don't think of it as the first book I would recommend as an introduction to the "sector" since it's more about principles and inspiration than concrete application to modern day cases (like in more modern classics like Tracy and Ziglar) and it may very well be the case that being a novice you wouldn't scrap the surface enough to find the real gems this book owes its fame to.
