Voltaire a dÃ©ployÃ© durant les quatre vingt quatre annÃ©es de sa vie terrestre (1694-1778) une Ã©nergie colossale, Ã©crivant des dizaines de romans, de piÃ¨ces de thÃ©Ã¢tre, d'essais, de poÃ©sie, mais surtout adressant plus de quarante mille lettres Ã� des centaines de correspondants de par le monde.

Tout un chacun a lu son Candide, mais c'est dans sa Correspondance que nous allons le retrouver ici. Il faudra lire entre les lignes parfois, car Voltaire dÃ©testait parler de son Ãªtre intÃ©rieur, abreuvant sans compter son lecteur de l'Ã©tat de sa santÃ©, toujours voisin du dernier soupir.

La famille Tronchin n'Ã©chappera pas Ã� ses plaintes. Mais jamais Jean-Robert, FranÃ§ois ni bien entendu ThÃ©odore, mÃ©decin de son Ã©tat, ne lui en feront ouvertement reproche.

L'annÃ©e 1755 voit Voltaire s'installer dans son premier chez lui, aux DÃ©lices prÃ¨s de GenÃ¨ve, grÃ¢ce aux Tronchin. Nous observerons les liens particuliers qui se tissent entre eux, jusqu'en 1757, lorsque le Patriarche entrera Ã� Ferney. Anecdotes, Grande Histoire, petits riens du quotidien, seront autant de prÃ©cieux cailloux semÃ©s par Voltaire pour nous inviter Ã� le suivre au jour le jour, dans son intimitÃ©.

L'ambition de cet ouvrage est de lever un coin du voile sur la personnalitÃ© extraordinairement vivante, moderne, sÃ©duisante, d'un homme ancrÃ© dans son temps, de toutes ses forces, mais dont la profondeur d'Ã¢me et d'esprit est hors du Temps.
