"Stupid...safety lock," Holly Ashwin muttered as she fiddled with the nozzle of the pepper spray in her bag.

With her free hand, she pushed up her glasses, casting another nervous glance over her shoulder. She'd thought she heard footsteps behind her in the night. Was she being followed -- or paranoid?

For months, she'd had the sense that someone was watching her. Yet strangely it hadn't bothered her before. She couldn't explain it, but there had been an almost soothing quality to the presence she'd felt.

Tonight, all that had changed.

She sensed raw menace, and wished she hadn't made the walk from the parking lot to Gibson Hall by herself. Usually her boyfriend escorted her to class, but Tim was at a symposium presenting their latest paper -- alone, because her condition made it nearly impossible for her to travel.

In this installment of the Immortals after Dark series Kresley Cole keeps you wanting more. I couldn't put this book down. Her style of writing makes you desperate for the characters to come together and get their happy ending but there is much standing in their way. As always, Cole creates a completely fascinating world with beautiful, strong women who just can't resist their masculine, love sick Lore men. Loved it and every other book in this series.

Out of the whole series, this was my second favorite. The characters were well developed and the reader is able to establish an emotional connection with them. Cade and Holly are such polar opposites at the beginning of the book, but as the story continues the reader sees how perfect they are for eachother. Cole has perfected the sexual tension in her characters with these two and it keeps the reader on the edge. A fabulous book that you'll want to read in one sitting!

#5 in the IAD Series. This is Cadeon Woede and Holly Ashwin's story. The different reveiws on this had me wondering if I would like this one. Having read them in order I may be bias... I think. I am already in love with the Lore and all of the varied Characters. I was excited to hear Cade's story. I guess, objectively this book has less depth and meat. There isn't any strong secondary character's that tag with the H/h through the story. Did I notice that missing??? Not until it was pointed out to me. So I still have to give it 5 stars. Keep 'em coming Ms. Cole!!

Kind of wish she would focus on Regin, but this is a great continuation of the series. There's angst and misconceptions and really hot sex and yeah, Cole's done well with it. Worth the read.

Before Kresley Cole, I read a novel or two by Sherrilyn Kenyon, Kim Harrison, Karen M Moning, Lara Adrian as well as Emma Holly - all of whom, I guess, could be regarded as paranormal romance authors. For the moment, I have decided I won't be considering any more of the above but of them all, I prefer Kresley Cole's writing. This (Dark Desires) was only the 2nd KC novel I had read and I found the relationship between the h&h mostly convincing, enjoyed both the way their physical relationship developed and the heat and wit of their verbal exchanges. What I didn't find convincing was the hero's preparedness to 'give' his fated mate (the heroine) to another being/creature/woteva in order to secure a special weapon. Maybe this preparedness is a device to convince the reader that he's a tough, very-committed-to-the-mission dude who will eventually see the light but I didn't like him for it - even at the end of the story. To me, not one of the secondary characters was appealing - even those who assisted the h&h relationship or their 'mission.' I don't know if it's the genre, the technicalities of writing paranormal stuff or poor characterisation but sometimes the hearts - the hidden, barely-evoked-but-definitely-there depths and dimensions of a romance between 2 people - of these novels are either barely pumping or they severely flat-line.
