Storm Born
Just typical. No love life to speak of for months, then all at once, every horny creature in the Otherworld wants to get in your pants. Eugenie Markham is a powerful shaman who does a brisk trade banishing spirits and fey who cross into the mortal world. Mercenary, yes, but a girl's got to eat. Her most recent case, however, is enough to ruin her appetite. Hired to find a teenager who has been taken to the Otherworld, Eugenie comes face to face with a startling prophecy-one that uncovers dark secrets about her past and claims that Eugenie's first-born will threaten the future of the world as she knows it. Now Eugenie is a hot target for every ambitious demon and Otherworldy ne'er-do-well, and the ones who don't want to knock her up want her dead. Eugenie handles a Glock as smoothly as she wields a wand, but she needs some formidable allies for a job like this. She finds them in Dorian, a seductive fairy king with a taste for bondage, and Kiyo, a gorgeous shape-shifter who redefines animal attraction. But with enemies growing bolder and time running out, Eugenie realizes that the greatest danger is yet to come, and it lies in the dark powers that are stirring to life within her. STORM BORN

Chapter One

I'd seen weirder things than a haunted shoe, but not many.

The Nike Pegasus sat on the office's desk, inoffensive, colored in shades of gray, white, and orange. Some of the laces were loosened, and a bit of dirt clung around the soles. It was the left shoe.

As for me, well ... underneath my knee-length coat, I had a Glock .22 loaded with bullets carrying a higher-than-legal steel content. A cartridge of silver ones rested in the coat's pocket. Two athames lay sheathed on my other hip, one silver-bladed and one iron. Stuck into my belt near them was a wand, hand-carved oak and loaded with enough charmed gems to probably blow up the desk in the corner if I wanted to.

To say I felt overdressed was something of an understatement.

"So," I said, keeping my voice as neutral as possible, "what makes you think your shoe is ... uh, possessed?"

Brian Montgomery, late thirties with a receding hairline in serious denial, eyed the shoe nervously and moistened his lips. "It always trips me up when I'm out running. Every time. And it's always moving around. I mean, I never actu ... read full excerpt from: Storm Born ebook

WOW!!! The heroine of this book is Eugenie Markham. Eugenie is a shaman who protects humans form creatures of the otherworld. She grew up thinking that gentry, i.e. fairies, are all evil and she either banished or killed those who dared to bother humans [who would pay her to exorcise whatever was haunting them or causing some disturbance, she was a p.i.]; it shocks her to her core when she finds out otherwise - that some gentry were actually quite decent. This discovery came about when one of her jobs required her to go to the otherworld to bring back a human girl that was kidnapped. The story gets very interesting from there, and it contains quite a twist! I greatly recommend this book to all fans of the genre!

This was a good book but I didn't really like the end. The lead character was a strong kick butt girl but I didn't like how it kind of let you wondering what would happen in the future unless there is another book in the works.

The author did a great job of creating the world the story was set in. It was a really interesting book. I would love to read the next book if one is coming and I would love to read some other books by this author.

This is the first book in a new series for Richelle Mead. The main character is Eugenie Markham. Eugenie has been raised by her stepfather to be a shaman. Her job is to remove otherworldly threats from earth, and she is very good at it. Suddenly though, the very creatures she is fighting know her name, her real name, and are more interested in her personally than it the fact that she is killing them. Already leary by this turn of events, she is soon appraoched with an unusual and dangerous job, go to the otherworld and retreive a kidnapped teen from the fairy king. Eugenie's strengths are tested when she takes this job. Not only to get in and out of the otherworld alive, but also to get out as the same person she went in as.

This is an awesome 1st book in a promising series. Hot, sexy, actions packed and funny. I love her writing. She is so witty and funny. She makes the magical world seem wishful. Can't wait for the next! Also I would recommend the Georgia Kincaid series it is Hot and funny too! If you love a tough, cocky, strong female who still manages to be sexy and outwit the male gender and survive, sometimes even in a dress or half naked with dignity and still be able to laugh. Then this is a book you’ll love. Especially if you love the fantasy world.
