Chapter One

Lady Grace Belmont stepped through the wide double doors into the Duke of Alvord's ballroom.

Dear God.

She froze on the small landing. Hundreds of candles lit hundreds of faces-and she'd swear every single face was turned toward her. Men in precisely fitted black coats and snowy white cravats raised their quizzing glasses. Brilliantly-gowned women, plumes bobbing, fans shielding their lips, tittered and whispered.

Dear, dear God. She couldn't escape fast enough-except she couldn't escape at all. A gaggle of elderly women blocked the stairs.

Blast! Grace swallowed and clenched her hands. She tried to take a deep breath, but the air was too thick with the scent of candle wax, perfume, and infrequently washed bodies. This book had the potential to be very, very good book. Like so many authors I am trying to read I am finding they think more is better. More story lines, more characters, more, more more!. Keeping this story about the main characters would have been a good idea. If you want to share a story the secondary characters shouldn't get half of the book! The concept was nice though and I will recommend but mot to read a second time. By the way.... Long live the big busted woman!

This book was not as good as I thought it would be.it had the potential to be really good because of the characters and the storyline but the author was more into details that didnt matter and were boring.

I couldn't help but purchase this book. I had been wondering how Grace could/had left Mr Parker-Roth at the alter and what had led her to that decision. Sally MacKenzie does not disapoint, in fact she really should have written this one first, as it preludes to 'The Naked Duke.' The characters are well formed and the story is told with such wit and love that when you come to the end you are left wanting more of Sally MacKenzie's brillance. I cant wait for more ebooks of hers on diesel.
