The Darkest Fire is a prequel to Gena Showalter's Lords of the Underworld series. I really liked this story and even though it is only short it still managed to make me tear up. Would recommend to fans of the LOTU.

Heroine never finds her strength. She is supposably powerful but never taps into that power. She relies on the hero for everything which is truly annoying and even...weird because she is supposably hell's gatekeeper, lucifer's warden, and she is a goddess, while the hero is only one of lucifer's minions. Story is very short, and as a result, the plot progresses rather rapidly. Dispointingly,the author fails to make the reader fall in love with the characters. If anything, you pity the heroin's cowardlyness, and you are left confused why the hero would make a sacrifice he vowed to never make again to a women he barely knows.
