Alpha & Omega
In Cry Wolf, New York Times bestselling author Patricia Briggs started a new urban fantasy series set in the world of Mercy Thompson'but with rules of its own. Now, read 'Alpha and Omega,' the novella that inspired the new series, and see how it all began' Anna Latham never knew werewolves existed, until the night she survived a violent attack'and became one herself. After three years at the bottom of the Chicago pack, she's learned to keep her head down and never, ever trust dominant males. But when she discovers wrongdoing in her pack, she has to go above her Alpha's head to ask for help. Charles Cornick is the son'and enforcer'of the leader of the North American werewolves. Now his father has sent him to Chicago to clean up a problem there. Charles never expected to find Anna, a rare Omega wolf'and he certainly never expected to recognize her as his mate'

Patricia Briggs is one amazing paranormal writer. Her stories are always fascinating because her characters are so unique and because the world she creates is intricate and – amazingly for the paranormal – easy to believe and understand. Another thing Briggs does extremely well is write shorter stories. In a short space of time she is able to make us fall for her two lead characters, and is able to not only send them on a great adventure, but also to show us in just a few words here and there, the promise of a future for them. Anna and Charles are just wonderful. They are introduced here, and their story could be seen as complete, but this is just the beginning for them. Check out the rest of their story in Brigg’s full length books that come after Alpha and Omega.

5 out of 5 stars The Missing Piece 09/15/2009
Reviewer: Heather Cooper from Tokyo, JP
I did not read the anthology that this was in because I just wasn't interested in the other stories. I did read the other Alpha and Omega books and absolutely loved them. If you did too, this is a must! I thought this novella was a great read but it was also gives so much to the other two books. Reading this gave new insight to how Charles and Anna met and if you think their relation is great (as I do!) then you will think how they met is wonderful. This short story is completely worth the buy. If you haven't read the others, this will start you off!

A really nice start to what looks like an enjoyable series. The groundwork is laid out for the next book and, for a short story all the bases are covered. If you are a Patricia Briggs fan I highly recommend reading Alpha and Omega, particularly if you are intending on reading the upcoming series.

I was really looking forward to reading this book because I read Cry Wolf and always wondered how Charles and Anna had met. I loved the interaction between the characters in Cry Wolf and I still love them. The story was short, but was able to fill in all the gaps left in Cry Wolf.
