It's a Boy!
The announcement, "It's a boy!" is welcomed by every new mother with
excitement, thanks-giving - and trepidation. It signifies the beginning of a
great adventure, one that includes snakes, spiders, snails, bumps, scrapes,
dirty hands, and muddy shoes. It is the beginning of what may be the most
challenging job a human being could ever take on: raising a boy.
Something very amazing happens to a woman when she becomes the mother of a son.
I have three daughters, and they are all mothers now. One of them has a son;
and since his birth, I have witnessed in her an intense desire to figure out
why males do what they do - not to judge or compare him to the female of the
species, but simply to understand why he's different.
If only every mother of a newborn baby boy realized how important she was! W.
