The sweet comforting smell of the perfumed steam was incentive enough for him to hurry with the proficient scrubbing he gave his body in the shower in order to soothe his soul in the steaming hot waters. As the last of his unsettling feelings rolled down the drain, he wearily dragged his body out of the brass and glass alcove and crossed the room on silent feet. Walking quietly had become second nature to him. With a barely audible sigh, he settled into the still stinging hot water, shuddering slightly as it first burned then eased his muscles, warming them up, helping to prepare him for what was ahead. He soon relaxed against the lip of the tub, closed his eyes and let his thoughts drift. Would tonight be the night? Would his soul find the peace that it so craved?
