Reader Review: Eloisa James has created yet another throughouly enjoyable book with characters that you can laugh and cry with. Her plots carries through well and remains true to the series. If you can read all the books in the duchess series it is worth it

Welcome to a world of reckless sensuality and glittering sophistication . . . of dangerously handsome gentlemen and young ladies longing to gain a title . . . of games played for high stakes, including—on occasion—a lady's virtue.

A marquess's sheltered only daughter, Lady Roberta St. Giles falls in love with a man she glimpses across a crowded ballroom: a duke, a game player of consummate skill, a notorious rakehell who shows no interest in marriage—until he lays eyes on Roberta.

Yet the Earl of Gryffyn knows too well that the price required to gain a coronet is often too high. Damon Reeve, the earl, is determined to protect the exquisite Roberta from chasing after the wrong destiny.

Can Damon entice her into a high-stakes game of his own, even if his heart is likely to be lost in the venture?

Another great romance from Eloisa James. Roberta and Damon are fine main characters with all the wonderful interaction you would expect from the main characters of a novel by Eloisa James. Jemma and Elijah are the the secondary characters with their own love story that isn't as simple. They are both very well done, especially Jemma. All the other characters that round out the story are wonderfully interesting, especially Teddy and the Marquess, Roberta's father. The inclusion of chess as an intregal part of the story is very interesing, even if you know squat about the game...as do I. I highly recommend this book as another terrific one from Ms James.

I have not read many Eloisa James' books, but I definitely will after this one. Her characters were well developed and the story draws you in immediately. I also loved the way there was more than one love story taking place between supporting characters. The story behind the marriage of Jemma and her husband is so intriguing. It leaves you craving the next DD book!
