Reader Review: I love this story and have reread it several times. Most of the novel takes place in an inn, which is not that common. Christian is a really sly devil...everything you want in a man. Kate is a country miss but no simpering miss, either. The missing journal is what Christian starts out after but Kate is what he realizes he really wants. The story line in great, the characters are wonderful and I really liked the advice from Kate's father at the opening of some chapters and the nastiness from Christian's father at others. It gave real insight to the difference in the parents and the way the words affected each child as they grew up. Excellently done. I look forward to reading more of Ms Mallory's novels.
Facing the choice of flight or a wedding she cannot abide, Kate Simon has chosen to flee. Disguised as a boy, she takes refuge in a roadside inn, and finds herself rooming with intensely secretive Christian Black. Kate is breathless in the presence of this handsome, mysterious rogue whose piercing gaze seems to strip her naked. But neither suspects that a savage storm and a murder will draw them closer together still. But not the passion in their hearts
Christian dares not let anyone learn of his haunted past—or that he is, in truth, the Earl of Canley— especially not a slip of a girl whose masculine attire cannot disguise the exquisite female form beneath. But now that destiny and a dastardly crime have united them, Christian can no longer contain his desire to taste the nectar of Kate's sweet kiss. Danger certainly abounds, but the gravest peril might be resisting a once-in-a-lifetime passion that can heal all wounds.

The plot of having a runaway Kate disguised as a boy, and due to circumstance, having to shack up at the inn with the handsome rogue Christian is enticing. However, in the end, the chemistry between Kate and Christian is sorely lacking, the delivery unengaging, and the mystery weak.
