Reader Review: Usually I don't like reunions after betrayals but this book is an exception. I loved the charachters and the underlying and metaphorical chess match which goes through all the story. I found the research of the drug very intriguing and the solution very bright and plausible. Moreover I'm looking forward to discover what will happen to Villiers in the next book of the series!
After playing an incredibly important -- and often scantily clad -- role in the four previous Desperate Duchesses books, it is finally time for Jemma to get her own story. Scandalous Jemma Beaumont and proper polititian Elijah Beaumont were always like oil and water. It came as no surprise to anyone when Jemma left to thrill all of France with her antics shortly after their wedding. But no one expected her return home ready to play the part of "dutiful" wife... least of all her husband.

Title: This Duchess of Mine October 17, 2009 I read a few of Eloisa James' earlier novels and stopped because I found the heroines a bit too "sappy" and the prose and plots were lacking, too. So initially was a little apprehensive about this one. Am glad that I took the risk 'though as Ms James' writing seems to have improved! I can't rave enough about this. To me, Ms J's restraint, skill and wit emphasised so much more the growing delight between Eleanor & Her Duke. And the strength of the writing, I believe, gave the secondary characters and Villiers' & his Eleanor's interactions with their families and friends a wonderful balance. This made for a fully rounded story - appealing to and satisfying a reader's many senses; especially visual, intellectual, comedic and sensual.
