Mencheres is moved by her courage and spirit and is experiencing feelings that have been dormant for almost 1,000 years. You cannot help but be drawn into Mencheres' story as he struggles with his conscience, responsibilities to his line and loneliness. Kira is the perfect salve for his spirit and unwittingly positions herself to save him from himself and his arch enemy, Radje. We know they both are going to tango at some point and the suspense stems from how each can do in the other without running afoul of the Law Guard. While the relationship between Mencheres and Kira unfolds a little slowly, it's well worth the wait. Watching Mencheres transformation is also heartwarming and welcomed. I loved his story and can't wait for the third book to be issued in this series.
