Reader Review: I didn't burn through the novel like I did with Abyss and Backlash but I enjoyed Golden's laconic Luke. He was sarcastic and fun this time around and I liked it. I do wonder what he thinks of his own knights. He never seems to call for them no matter how dangerous and outrageous things get. He is counting on a group of Sith and his son. I don't mind the melodrama of Tahiri's trial. I hope she gets off soon though. She's not an interesting character all locked up book after book. And I like Tahiri. I want her in the Jedi doing things. I liked how Golden finally tables a big issue in the Star Wars galaxy. Slavery. And it was done well. However, I didn't like Golden's overuse of TV or "holonet". The media is a large part of FOTJ and it's kinda boring and a bit heavy handed. The Ben/Vestara romance was harmless. I don't know what anyone should expect considering that they're hot teenagers locked up together in a small ship. I know what I'd want to do. I enjoyed Allies but it took me a while to get through the second half. It didn't have as much pop as the first. Still, it was okay.

What began as a quest for truth has become a struggle for survival for Luke Skywalker and his son, Ben. They have used the secrets of the Mindwalkers to transcend their own bodies and speak with the spirits of the fallen, risking their very lives in the process. They have faced a team of Sith assassins and beaten the odds to destroy them. And now the death squad’s sole survivor, Sith apprentice Vestara Khai, has summoned an entire fleet of Sith frigates to engage the embattled father and son. But the dark warriors come bearing a surprising proposition that will bring Jedi and Sith together in an unprecedented alliance against an evil more ancient and alien than they can imagine.

While the Skywalkers and their Sith allies set off on their joint mission into the treacherous web of black holes that is the Maw, Han and Leia Solo risk arrest and worse to aid the Jedi imprisoned back on Coruscant. Tyrannical Chief of State Natasi Daala has issued orders that will open a permanent schism between her government and the Jedi Order—a schism that could turn all Jedi into renegades and wanted criminals.

But it is in the depths of the Maw that the future of the galaxy will be decided. For there the Skywalkers and their Sith allies will engage a true monster in battle, and Luke will come face-to-face with a staggering truth.

Features a bonus section following the novel that includes a primer on the  Star Wars  expanded universe, and over half a dozen excerpts from some of the most popular  Star Wars  books of the last thirty years!

Star Wars: Fate of the Jedi: Allies

Chapter One

ABOARD THE JADE SHADOW

Ben wondered if he'd be his father's age before things started going right for him on any basis other than what appeared to be happy accidents.

Then he wondered if he'd be older than his dad.

True, he'd had a couple of uneventful years after the war. But then his father got arrested and exiled for a decade. Jedi who had spent formative years on Shelter in the Maw-and yes, Ben was among that number, how reassuring was that little fact-started going crazy. Ben and Luke had learned about some creepy powerful being with dark slithery mental tendrils of need who was probably responsible for the crazy Jedi, and had been going to pay her a visit inside the Maw when they abducted a Sith. One that was definitely easy on the eyes, but who was nonetheless a Sith, from a whole planetload of them, no less. A Sith who was still with them right now, standing and smirking at them while nearly a dozen frigates crammed with her pals surrounded them.

Yeah. He would definitely be older than his dad.

Luke had followed the instructions given by the unnamed, unseen Sith commander of the Black Wave, placing the Shadow in a parking orbit around Dathomir. There was no other choice, not with eleven ChaseMaster frigates ready to open fire.

"A wise decision," Vestara said. "I'm fond of my own life, so I'm glad you're cooperating, but if you had attempted to flee they most certainly would have destroyed you."

Luke eyed her thoughtfully. Clearly, he wasn't so sure.

"So," Ben continued, "what are they going to do with us? Are we going to be the main attraction at some kind of Sith ritual party?"

"I've no idea," Vestara said. She might be lying thr...
