Reader Review: Maya Banks is one of my favorites. This first book was very good. Ewan and Mirian are both strong characters and their affection for one another is touching. I can't wait to read the other stories.
Maya Banks, the New York Times bestselling author of erotic romance, romantic suspense, and contemporary romance, has captivated readers with her steamy Scottish historical novels, perfect for fans of Julie Garwood. In Bed with a Highlander is the start of a beguiling trilogy featuring three unforgettable brothers risking everything to save their clan and their legacy—and to surrender their hearts to love.
Ewan McCabe, the eldest, is a warrior determined to vanquish his enemy. Now, with the time ripe for battle, his men are ready and Ewan is poised to take back what is his—until a blue-eyed, raven-haired temptress is thrust upon him. Mairin may be the salvation of Ewan’s clan, but for a man who dreams only of revenge, matters of the heart are strange territory to conquer.
The illegitimate daughter of the king, Mairin possesses prized property that has made her a pawn—and wary of love. Her worst fears are realized when she is rescued from peril only to be forced into marriage by her charismatic and commanding savior, Ewan McCabe. But her attraction to her ruggedly powerful new husband makes her crave his surprisingly tender touch; her body comes alive under his sensual mastery. And as war draws near, Mairin’s strength, spirit, and passion challenge Ewan to conquer his demons—and embrace a love that means more than revenge and land.

I loved the heroine Mairin- she was a strong woman and even when she was faced with very hard circumstance she didn't lose hope and she was willing to fight for her life.
I found myself crying and laughing while reading In Bed With a Highlander- Mairin tendency to blurb out her thoughts out load was so funny LOL
I was so drawn into the story I just didn't want to get off the bus and stop reading (too bad I work so many hours so not enough time to read during the week).
Maya Bank's writes great family romance; it doesn't matter if it's contemporary romance, erotic romance or historical romance.

Mairin Stuart was hidden away for most of her life in an abbey, in disguise as a nun. She was discovered and taken away to Duncan Cameron, who wants the legacy promised to her as the illegitimate heir of former King Alexander of Scotland. On the way to Cameron, she protects a 7-year old boy from the wrath of her abductors and keeps him with her. After refusing to marry Cameron and paying the price for that, she escapes with the young boy and ends up in his father Ewan's laird. He then works to convince her to join forces through marriage to help thwart Cameron's plans to overthrow the current King David.
I loved this story, especially Ewan and Mairin's characters. They both are strong-willed and principled, which made for some tense but compelling moments. The premise of the book is appealing and offers so many opportunities for subplots going forward. Ewan's brothers, the women of the keep and other soldiers all help to make this a very interestiing start to the trilogy. Mairin's relationship with Ewan's son is heartwarming and her naiveté makes for some lighthearted moments. The romance is steamy and their developing relationship was fun to watch unfold.
This is a good start to the trilogy and I'm excited to start the next book in the series.
